Katharina Kaminski (Montevideo, 1994) is a visual artist based between Paris and Uruguay, working with installation and sculpture, primarily in ceramics, bronze, and marble. Following an autodidactic and intuitive approach, Kaminski ‘gives live’ to clay beings. Her work evokes alternative living forms, each piece reflecting unique articulations of presence and embodiment.
Fire appears in her work as a contrasting elemental force, a catalyst that interacts with her sculptures from within, establishing a tension between light and shadow. In this interplay, Kaminski sculpts not only the material form but also the presence of the light itself, extending the work into a dynamic spatial experience.
Her first solo exhibition, Womb, at Sainte Anne Gallery in Paris, took its title from the feminine reproductive organ the artist was not born with. The exhibition positioned the womb as a metaphor for fertile potency beyond biology, one that Kaminski reclaims for herself while uncovering the imposed layers of stigma on intersexuality.
Through this intimate work with the corporeal, she reflects on what exists beyond our physical world.
